  • Reduces impact injuries by providing consistent G-Max Rating
  • Provides consistent year-round all-weather playing surface
  • Multipurpose field / sport usage
  • Host unlimited field events. School Districts report a 200 – 1600 event per year increase.
  • Standard 8 -10 year warranty maintenance and labor
  • Vandal resistant
  • UV resistant
  • Self extinguishing

Safety

Synthetic turf has undergone many technological advances and facelifts since the original debut of Astroturf ®. It is now a non-abrasive, safe, all-weather playing surface. Synthetic turf is not a hard non-forgiving, short grass, grab your shoes and twist your knees surface. Synthetic turf is much closer to natural grass. The synthetic material is non-abrasive, dramatically reducing the number of “raspberries” and “rug burn” type injuries. It is multi-functional, low maintenance, and far more durable than natural grass. For these reasons and many others, synthetic turf systems are the desired playing surface for a diverse number of athletic and recreational activities.

As far as hardness and playability is concerned, the concept for these fields is based on providing an outdoor play mat that can be adjusted to the firmness desired. The firmness rating for any field is called the G-Max rating. The G-max rating is adjusted by adding or removing the rubber granule in- fill. DLH Architecture’s staff is knowledgeable of active ASTM Standards for safety and Testing Methods. There is a test performed to determine the appropriate G-Max rating and the turf contractor is responsible for maintaining the desired consistent G-Max rating during the 8 - 10 year warranty.

All-Weather Playing Surface

In many areas of the country, water restrictions have forced field closures or revised schedules to limited access. The public is accustomed to the luxury of lush green playing fields. However, heavy usage and lack of water forced by mandatory watering restrictions turn fields into brown, barren, hard, high maintenance, and high liability areas.

Synthetic turf is not a mystery. It is a new system that can solve age old problems and provide answers to those tough questions about field usage, water usage, maintenance, and safety.

The synthetic turf allows water to drain into the sub-base below where it runs to the nearest subsurface lateral drain line and is channeled into the main field drains. A synthetic turf field is designed to drain approximately 26.5” of rain per hour. This drainage coefficient along with the ability to snow plow the field with rubber plow attachments keeps the field an all weather playing surface. The rubber granules in the turf system keep the field as resilient in January as they do July which avoids the hard frozen turf scenario.
