McGlone Early Learning Center

The bond passed on November 8, 2013.  November 9, 2013 DLH Architecture started the design on this new early childhood learning center for Denver Public Schools.  August 8, 2014 there were 120 pre-k and kindergarten students in the classrooms. Nine months from start of design to kids in the seats. Talk about meeting a schedule!

Designed around the new 21st Century Design Principles championed by Denver Public Schools, the concept is based around a capturing a child’s attention.  Using familiar block elements with letters and numbers cut into the carpet every space can be a learning space.  Every turn in the main corridor is another adventure at school. Open joists and deck painted sky blue with ceiling system clouds greet each child in every classroom.  Color is used as a way-finding tool which is used to move kids that can’t read yet into the correct classroom through a series of primary colored entry hoods above the doorway
